Montemor-o-Novo is a Portuguese city in the District of Évora, Alentejo region and sub-region of central Alentejo, with about 12 000 inhabitants. It is the second largest city in the district, only surpassed by the capital, Évora.
It is the headquarters of a municipality with 1 232.97 km² of area (one of the largest in Portugal) and 17 437 inhabitants, subdivided into 7 parishes.
Montemor-o-Novo has links to Évora by the A6, from which it is about 15-20 minutes away; and New Sales by national road and A6, from the last less than 10 minutes by motorway.
From Lisbon, approximately 60 minutes away - either by the A6 (and connection by the Bridge 25 de Abril), or using A6 to Vendas Novas and the N4 subsequently, via Vasco da Gama Bridge.
It has through the Network Express daily connections to the whole country. It is together with Évora the city of Alentejo with better access to the capital of the country by Bus.
As far as rail transport is concerned, the only railway gare it owns, The White House, is 10 km from the county seat.
